The Indian state-run Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has unveiled the results of its latest 2,000 MW wind power reverse auction. At INR 2.51-2.52/kWh (US$3.9c/kWh), the average price was marginally higher than the tariff of INR 2.44-2.45/kWh (US$3.75c/kWh) reached at the last 2,000 MW SECI auction, held in February 2017. The previous tariffs were felt unviable by many wind projects developers.
Eight companies were selected in the auction, including four international groups and four local companies: Srijan Energy Systems (250 MW), Sprng Energy (300 MW), BLP Energy (Enel subsidiary, 285 MW), Betam Wind Energy (Engie, 200 MW), Inox Wind Infrastructure Services (100 MW), Adani Green Energy (300 MW), Mytrah Energy (300 MW) and ReNew Power (270 MW). Enel will invest US$290m in the construction of its wind park, which is scheduled to come onstream in the second half of 2019.
The Indian government plans to auction 10 GW of wind power in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020, respectively. These rounds are expected to contribute to India’s target of achieving 60 GW of wind power generation capacity by 2022.
