Germany awards 2.3 GW in oversubscribed solar capacity auction

The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has published the results of its solar PV tender from December 2025 (Bundesnetzagentur press release, 13/02/2025). The tender was oversubscribed, and it included ground-mounted solar PV as well as solar installations on a construction (excluding on buildings and noise-barriers).

  • A total of 2,341 MW was allocated across 262 bids, while the procurement aimed to allocate 2,328 MW and attracted 634 submitted bids with a capacity of over 5.2 GW.
  • The awarded bids had an average of €5.00c/kWh, which is slightly above the average recorded in the previous round (€4.84c/kWh).
  • Most of the awarded bids were from projects in Bavaria (901 MW, 112 awards), Saxony-Anhalt (282 MW, 24 awards), and Brandenburg (216 MW, 16 awards).
  • Most of the projects are expected to be developed alongside motorways and railway lines (1,150 MW, 125 awards). The remaining projects are expected to be developed on farmland or grassland in disadvantaged areas (874 MW, 88 awards) and on “special solar installations” (204 MW, 30 awards).

Germany aims to reach 215 GW of onshore wind capacity by 2030. As of the end of 2024, the country has an installed solar capacity of over 90 GW (Enerdata Global Energy Data).
