Financial closing for the 875 MW Tierra Mojada CCGT plant (Mexico)

Fisterra Energy announced it has reached financial closing for its greenfield 875 MW Tierra Mojada combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power project worth US$600m in Guadalajara (Mexico).



The company will now proceed with construction. The H-Class gas turbines will be provided by General Electric while the power output is expected to be sold to Comisión Federal de Electricidad Calificados under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). Commissioning is expected by the end of December 2019.



Fisterra Energy is owned by Blackstone Energy Partners, an energy-focused private equity fund, and the global private equity fund Blackstone Capital Partners. As of today, it operates the 540 MW Frontera combined cycle plant in Texas along the Mexican border. The facility is connected to the Mexican grid through a dedicated overhead transmission line. The company also operates the 252 MW Ventika wind park in Nuevo Leon (Mexico). isterra Energy is also developing several other projects throughout Mexico such as the 1,200 MW Celaya CCGT plant in Guanajuato. The company also develops 650 MW of solar power throughout the country, mostly in Sonora, Chihuahua and Coahuila.
