The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy has announced that, in addition to the previously announced 1 GW IJmuiden Ver Gamma-A offshore wind site, which is scheduled to be auctioned in 2026, developers will also be able to apply for the 1 GW IJmuiden Ver Gamma-B site, bringing the upcoming offshore wind tender in the Netherlands to a total of 2 GW (Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy press release, 03/04/2026).
The maximum subsidy amount for Gamma-B will be EUR10.3c/kWh, slightly lower than for Gamma-A, due to higher expected wind yields at the Gamma-B site, according to the press release.
The updated plan now foresees both IJmuiden Ver Gamma-A and Gamma-B being awarded under a temporary subsidy scheme designed to de-risk offshore wind investments and stimulate developer participation until the Contract for Difference (CfD) mechanism, which the Dutch government is developing, is in place.
The final tender arrangements for the IJmuiden Ver Gamma-A and Gamma-B sites will be published in the second quarter of 2026, with both tenders expected to close in December 2026. The Dutch Government expects to grant the subsidy decisions and associated permits in the first quarter of 2027, with the wind parks likely to begin generating energy from 2032.
Both wind parks will connect to a single TenneT offshore platform, with electricity transported to shore at Maasvlakte. Together, the two projects are expected to generate enough electricity to supply around 2 million households.
