World Bank lends US$125m for the Noor-Midelt CSP solar complex (Morocco)

The World Bank (WB) will lend US$125m in additional financial support for the development and construction of the Noor-Midelt I and II concentrated solar power (CSP) and photovoltaic (PV) power plants. Noor Midelt I and II will consist of two separate CSP plants with an expected capacity of 150-190 MW each and a minimum storage of 5 hours, and a PV component with an expected 150-210 MW capacity. As a result, each of the plants will have a total capacity of 300-400 MW for a total capacity of 600-800 MW.

This project will be developed within the framework of a public-private partnership between the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) and private companies with a BOO (Build, Own, Operate) and transfer project structure. The plants will be operated by a special purpose company, while the electricity will be sold to MASEN through a 25-year Power Purchase Agreements (PPA). The first phase was launched in July 2016 and as of June 2017, 5 groups of companies have been pre-selected by MASEN: ACWA Power, EDF Energies Nouvelles, ENGIE, Innogy SE and JGC consortia.
