Wind power tariffs quoted by bidders drop to US$c4/kWh (India)

The Indian Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has awarded 1,000 MW of wind power projects capacity under the framework of the second round of auction conducted by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). Five companies have been selected: ReNew Power (250 MW, Rs2.64/kWh or US$c4/kWh), Orange Sironj (200 MW, Rs2.64/kWh), Inox Wind (250 MW, Rs2.65/kWh), Green Infra (250 MW, Rs2.65/kWh) and Adani Green (50 MW, Rs2.65/kWh). The chosen projects will have to be commissioned within 18 months from the SECI's Letter of Award date of issue to the successful bidders. This tariff is much lower than the first wind power auction conducted earlier in February 2017 at Rs3.46/kWh.

The auction was earlier scheduled for 19 September but was deferred to 4 October because of some issues regarding transmission connectivity between Indian states. Some developers and bidders were grappling with the issue of inter state transmission connectivity and the government was waiting for a Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) clarification on inter state power transmission connectivity.
