Vattenfall will invest €200m in the 295 MW Wieringermeer wind park (Netherlands)

The Swedish power group Vattenfall plans to invest €200m to repower and expand the Wieringermeer onshore wind park (North Holland) in the Netherlands, which was constructed through a joint venture between Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), Nuon and partners, and Windcollectief Wieringermeer.

Vattenfall is replacing the existing 93 Nuon wind turbines of the facility with 99 new, more efficient turbines and the total park capacity is expected to increase from 130 MW up to 180 MW by 2019. Besides, Vattenfall has acquired an additional 32 turbines from the adjacent Wieringermeer extension project with an additional capacity of 115 MW, which brings the whole project capacity up to 295 MW in 2020. The park's power generation is expected to reach 1 TWh/year.

Vattenfall's total installed wind power capacity in the Netherlands amounts to 349 MW, of which 241 MW of onshore wind power - including the 122 MW Prinses Alexia wind park - and 108 MW offshore, including the 108 MW Egmond aan Zee wind parks.
