Uzbekistan’s 200 MW PV tender attracts 54 bidders

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan has received expressions of interest from 54 companies willing to take part to a tender for a 200 MW solar power project in Sherabad, in the Surkhandarya region. Interested companies include China’s China Three Gorges, PowerChina, TBEA and Jinko Solar, Japan’s Marubeni, Sumitomo and SoftBank, South Korea's Kepco and Kospo, India’s NTPC and ReNew Power, Qatar's Nebras Power, Masdar (United Arab Emirates), Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power, European groups such as Engie, Total Eren, EDP, Eni and Fotowatio.

The tender was launched in February 2020, with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which pledged to fund 1 GW of solar in the country. Interested parties had until 22 February 2020 to submit a bid. The request for qualifications and the request for proposals are expected to follow in March and in May 2020. Later in February 2020, the government published an invitation for expression of interest for two 200 MW solar power projects in the Samarkand and Jizzakh regions (east of the country).
