Uzbekistan lauches a 100 MW wind tender

The government of Uzbekistan has launched a tender for a 100 MW wind power project in the Qorao’zak district of Karakalpakstan region. The project be developed with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Interested parties can submit an expression of interests by 13 May 2020. The authorities aim at creating a larger wind project in the area with a total capacity of 300 MW, and will launch a second tender for 200 MW soon.

The government of Uzbekistan is looking to develop 5 GW of solar and 3 GW of wind capacity by 2030. The Ministry of Energy is engaging with multiple foreign direct investors for this purpose including ACWA Power, Masdar, and Total. The government will open tenders for 1 GW of wind projects to be installed in Karakalpakstan and 1 GW of solar projects in a program supported by the ADB. This will help the country reach its 25% renewable power generation target by 2030.
