The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (United States) has confirmed the sales of six offshore wind leases in New York and New Jersey for a total consideration of US$4.4bn. The six could result in 5.6 GW of offshore wind capacity, generating around 19.6 TWh/year. They were awarded to six consortiums, including Ocean Winds (the joint venture of EDP Renewables and Engie, OCS-A 0537, up to 868 MW), Attentive Energy (OCS-A 0538, up to 964 MW), Bight Wind (RWE and National Grid, OCS-A 0539, up to 1,387 MW), Atlantic Shore Offshore Wind (Shell and EDF Renewables, OCS-A 0541, up to 924 MW), Invenergy Wind Offshore (OCS-A 0542, up to 934 MW) and Mid Atlantic Offshore Wind (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, OCS-A 0544, up to 523 MW).
The United States aims to instal 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030. At the regional level, New York and New Jersey have set the target of installing 16 GW of offshore wind by 2035.
