According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), the US remained the largest LNG exporter in the world, recording 11.9 bcf/d (337 mcm/d or 123 bcm/year) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2024. However, US LNG exports remained stable when compared to with 2023 due to unplanned outages at existing LNG export facilities, lower natural gas consumption in Europe, and very limited new LNG export capacity additions since 2022. Australia and Qatar also recorded stable exports over the past five years ranging from 10.2 bcf/d to 10.7 bcf/d (289 mcm/d to 303 mcm/d) annually, while Russian and Malaysia (the fourth and fifth largest exporters) averaged 4.4 bcf/d (124 mcm/d) and 3.7 bcf/d (105 mcm/d), respectively.
Despite a 19% decline in exports to Europe (including Türkiye), this region was the main market of the US exports, with 53% (6.3 bcf/d or 180 mcm/d) of total US LNG exports. The Netherlands, France, and the UK remained as the main importers, with a combined 46% (82 mcm/d) of the regional total. Asia was the second market for US LNG exports, recording a 7pp increase (4 bcf/d or 113 mcm/d) from 2023 levels to 33% of total US LNG exports. In Asia, the main importers where Japan, South Korea, India, and China with a combined 76% (85 mcm/d).
