The US’ latest oil and gas lease round in the Gulf of Mexico raised US$382m

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has announced the results of its latest oil and gas lease round in the US Gulf of Mexico, which generated US$382m in high bids for 311 tracts covering 1.7 million acres (6,880 km²) in federal waters. The auction total was the highest of any federal offshore oil and gas lease sale since 2015.

A total of 26 companies participated in the lease sale, submitting 352 bids totalling nearly US$442m. Shell, Hess, Anadarko, BP, Chevron, Repsol and Equinor were among the 26 companies that participated in the sale. Anadarko had the auction's highest bid of more than US$25m for a block in the deepwater Mississippi Canyon area.

The latest lease Sale offered 13,482 unleased blocks on 72.7 million acres (294,200 km²) in the Gulf’s Western, Central and Eastern Planning Areas. The next lease round is set to be held in 2025.
