The US cuts US$679m of federal funds for offshore wind project infrastructure

The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) has withdrawn or terminated a total of US$679m in funding for the development of key infrastructure affecting offshore wind development projects across the United States due to misalignment with the goals and priorities of the current US administration. If possible, the funding is expected to be reassigned on critical port upgrades and other core infrastructure to prioritise the country’s maritime industry.

Funds were withdrawn for a total of seven projects: the Humboldt Bay Offshore wind (US$427m), the Sparrows Point Steel Marshalling Port Project (US$47m), the Bridgeport Port Authority Operations and Maintenance Wind Port Project (US$10m in Connecticut), the Wind Port (US$20m), the Arthur Kill Terminal (US$48m), the Gateway Upgrades for Access, Resiliency & Development at the Port of Davisville Project (US$11m) and the Norfolk Offshore Wind Logistics Port  (US$39m).

In addition, the US also terminated the funding for the Redwood Marine Terminal Project Planning (US$9m), the Salem Wind Port Project (US$34m), the Lake Erie Renewable Energy Resilience Project (US$11m), the Radio Island Rail Improvements in Support of Offshore Wind (US$2m), and the PMT Offshore Wind Development (US$20m).
