According to the United States Energy Information Administration (EIA), energy accounted for US$18bn of the value of all US exports to Canada (6% of the total) and US$73bn of all US imports from Canada (24% of total imports, +19% on 2016). This means that Canada is the primary source of US energy imports and the second largest destination for US energy exports after Mexico.
Crude oil was the main source of US energy imports from Canada and averaged 3.4 mb/d in 2017 (43% of all crude oil imports, for a total import bill of US$50bn). Canada was the largest destination for US crude oil exports in 2017 (29%, with 324 kb/d). Where petroleum products are concerned, Canada received 516 kb/d of US petroleum products in 2017 (US$9bn).
Canada's natural gas exports to the US were valued at US$7.3bn in 2017. Canada exported 8.1 bcf/f (229 mcm/d) to the United States, standing for 97% of all US natural gas imports. US exports to Canada were much smaller, at 2.5 bcf/d (71 mcm/d).
As for electricity, the US imported 71 TWh of power from Canada (approximately US$2.3bn) in 2017 and exported 9.9 TWh.
