According to DECC estimates, more than £42bn (in 2012 prices, more than €60bn) have been invested since 2010 in CO2-free power generation (renewables and nuclear). Between 2010 and 2014, renewable investments reached £39.6bn (€49bn), including £11.4bn (€14bn) for solar PV, £9.5bn (€12bn) for offshore wind, £7.9bn (€9.7bn) for onshore wind and £8.8bn (€11bn) for biomass and bioenergy. Investments in nuclear power, covering the development of Hinkley Point C and the purchases of Horizon Nuclear Power by GE Hitachi and of the Moorside site by NuGen, totalled £2.5bn (€3bn) over the period. These massive investments contributed to raise the share of CO2-free power generation in the power mix between mid-2010 and the third quarter of 2014 (from 27% to 40% of the power mix). Investments are expected to soar by 2020 and up to £100bn (more than €120bn) could be invested in the power system by this date.
