Chinese developers Guangxi Investment Group (GIG) and State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) have won development rights tenders for two offshore wind projects totalling 2.7 GW off the coast of Guangxi Autonomous Region, in southern China.
GIG was awarded the 1.8 GW Fangcheng project, which will be developed in two 900 MW phases. SPIC was awarded the 900 MW Qinzhou project, which will be located across two sites of 550 MW and 350 MW.
China’s offshore wind capacity stood at 19.7 GW by end-2021. Around 17 GW of offshore wind projects were commissioned in 2021. The country’s overall wind capacity reached 328 GW by end-2021, with more than 47 GW of projects entering commercial operations during the year.
