TVO's Olkiluoto-3 now scheduled to produce power in May 2019 (Finland)

The Finnish power utility Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) has received up-to-date information from the Olkiluoto-3 (OL3) supplier consortium regarding the advancement of the project. According to the new schedule, the startup of the 1,600 MW nuclear reactor has been delayed again. Fuel loading is now planned for August 2018 while the facility is expected to be connected to the Finnish grid in December 2018. The startup of regular electricity production is scheduled to take place by May 2019 instead of end-2018. According to the current ramp-up programme, the unit will deliver between 2 TWh and 4 TWh of electricity during the period of time between the first connection to the grid and the start of regular electricity production.

The OL3 EPR project (Eurajoki, Finland) is being built by the supplier consortium under a fixed-price turnkey contract. The supplier consortium includes namely companies Areva GmbH, Areva NP SAS and Siemens AG. The project has been hit by repeated delays, court disputes and rising costs. Initially planned to start in 2009, it will be completed approximately 10 years behind schedule.
