Türkiye launches YEKA tender for five wind projects (1.2 GW)

Türkiye’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has opened applications for the next round of wind power auctions. Under the YEKA RES-2024 round, the government plans to auction five wind projects in three provinces with a total combined capacity of 1.2 GW. The projects are located in the provinces of Edirne (410 MW), Kırklareli (the 340 MW Balkaya project and the 200 MW Sergen project) and Sivas (the 160 MW Yellice and the 90 MW Gürün projects). National and foreign companies are invited to participate, interested bidders can send financial bids ranging between US$3.5c/kWh and US$5.5c/kWh.

Proposals must consider that the project must have nationally manufactured wind turbines, while all components must have a domestic content rate of at least 51% to be awarded a score. Projects may include energy storage technology, but only for internal use and its capacity cannot be higher than the project’s wind capacity. Winning bidders will have a three-year deadline to finalise the projects without penalties and will obtain grid connections permits for 49 years. Applications will be open until 21 January 2025.

Under the 2022-2035 National Energy Plan, Türkiye aims to add an average of about 5 GW/year of renewable energy capacity, including 3.1 GW of solar power and 1.4 GW of wind. The country plans to hold YEKA tenders for at least 2 GW every year until 2035, to reach 120 GW of installed wind and solar capacity in 2035. A solar tender for 800 MW should be announced in early November 2024.
