Turkey will launch a 1 GW wind power call for tender in July 2017

The Turkish Ministry of Energy has unveiled its plans for the next wind power call for tender which will take place in the form of a reverse auction.

1,000 MW of wind power will be available and the deadline for the proposals has been set on 27 July 2017. The bid limit has been set at US$7.00/kWh.

The tender takes place within the framework of Turkey's Renewable Energy Resources Area project (YEKA), an important step for Turkey's National Energy Strategy. The country is trying to decrease its dependence on energy imports and wants to develop wind and solar parks.

In March 2017, the Turkish government awarded a tender for the construction of a 1,000 MW solar power project in the province of Konya (central Turkey) to a consortium of Kalyon (Turkey) and Hanwha (South Korea). The consortium submitted the lowest bid, at US$6.99c/kWh, and was selected over three other consortia. The total cost of building the Karapinar solar project is estimated at more than US$1.3bn (€1.2bn).
