Turkey awards 300 MW of solar projects with a lowest bid of US$2.6c/kWh

The Turkish Ministry of Energy has awarded 300 MW of solar projects in the first tranche of the 1 GW YEKA 4 PV tender, with prices ranging from TRY37.5c/kWh (US$2.57c/kWh) to TRY42.7c/kWh (US$2.93c/kWh). A ceiling price was set at TRY40c/kWh (US$2.7c/kWh). The three selected projects, rated 100 MW each, will sign a 15-year power purchase guarantee. 

Previously, in the 1 GW YEKA 3 PV tender (launched in March 2021 and ended in May 2021), the lowest bid came at TRY18.2c/kWh (US$1.2c/kWh). The Ministry of Energy selected projects ranging from 10 to 20 MW located in 36 cities and across 74 grid connection points.

Turkey’s solar capacity increased from 40 MW in 2014 to 6.7 GW in 2020. Turkey added 498 MW of solar capacity in 2021, according to the country's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. Solar accounted for 8% of the installed capacity in 2021.
