Tunisia invites bids for 1 GW of wind and solar power projects

The Tunisian government has launched a tender for 500 MW of large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, which will include the construction of five solar parks across several regions: 200 MW in the province of Tataouine, two 100 MW facilities in the provinces of Kairouan and Gafsa, and two 50 MW solar parks in the provinces of Sidi Bouzid and Tozeur. Interested bidders are invited to submit pre-qualification requests.

Besides, a 500 MW wind power tender was also launched, paving the way for new wind power projects to be completed under a build, own and operate (BOO) framework. It encompasses two concessions for a 200 MW project in Jbel Abdherrahmane (Nabeul governorate) and another 100 MW project at Jbel Tbaga (Kebili governorate). The remaining 200 MW will consist of projects with capacities of up to 100 MW on sites proposed by interested bidders.

The chosen bidders will be awarded a 20-year concession and the right to sign a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the state-run utility STEG.
