Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has received a series of orders for its "M501J" gas turbines (320 MW, or 460 MW in combined cycle generation mode). Orders consist of a total of ten gas turbines, to be installed at four power plants in South Korea. The plants are large-scale CCGT power plants to be built in Korea with generation capacities ranging from 950 MW to 1,900 MW. All the plants are expected to be operational in 2014.
The orders correspond to:
- two gas turbines, a steam turbine, two heat recovery steam generators and three generators for the 950 MW Yulchon 2 power plant, being built in Jeollanam-do by MPC Yulchon Generation, a subsidiary of Hong-Kong based MPC.
- two gas turbines, a steam turbine and generators will be supplied to the 950 MW Pyeongtaek-2 power plant, under construction in Gyeonggi-do by Korea Western Power (KOWEPO).
- two gas turbines, a steam turbine and generators to Korea East-West Power Company, which is developing a 950 MW plant project, Ulsan-4 in the Ulsan area.
- for the near 1,900 MW Dongducheon power plant, MHI received an order for four gas turbines, two steam turbines and generators. Dongducheon Dream Power, an IPP jointly established by KOWEPO, Samsung C&T Corporation and Hyundai Development Company, is building the plant in Gyeonggi-do.
