Indian state-owned power company Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corp. Ltd (TNGECL) has launched a tender for the development of seven standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a total capacity of 375 MW/1,500 MWh in Tamil Nadu. These projects are eligible for viability gap funding (VGF) through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF).
- Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corp. Ltd (TNPDCL) will enter into a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with the successful bidders, ensuring the storage capacity is available to TNPDCL on an ‘on-demand’ basis.
- The minimum bid size is 25 MW/100 MWh), and the project size must be quoted in multiples of 25 MW/100 MWh.
The selected developers will implement the BESS projects on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. The projects will be located across seven substations, namely Anaikadavu (100 MW/400 MWh), Karamadai (75 MW/300 MWh), Trichy – Thatchankurichi, Thiruvarur, and Madurai – Thappagundu (50 MW/200 MWh each), Palladam and Tirunelveli – N.
