Taiwan will launch a new offshore wind auction to allocate up to 3.6 GW

Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has announced an offshore wind auction aiming to allocate up to 3.6 GW of wind capacity (RENEWS, 27/03/2026). The process will include a floor price of TWD 2.29 (USD7c/kWh) to help secure financing and reduce development risks.

The auction will start on 1 April 2026, and it will remain open until 30 September 2026 with winners being expected to be announced before the end of the year. Selected projects should target grid connection for the 2030-2031 period, with the possibility of signing an extra five years of PPA for projects that achieve early completion

Taiwan aims to tender 15 GW of offshore wind capacity between 2026 and 2035, with an average of 1.5 GW per year. At the end of 2024, the country had an offshore wind capacity of 2.5 GW (about 4% of its total installed capacity).
