Sungrow and Sunotec have commissioned a 150 MW/600 MWh BESS in Nova Zagora, Bulgaria, for the independent power producer Enery (Sungrow press release, 11/06/2026). Financed through Bulgaria’s EU-backed RESTORE programme, the project is part of a broader grid-scale collaboration. The installation targets up to 800 MWh of capacity in the Nova Zagora region, with a potential expansion to 1 GWh under review.
The partners plan to bring an additional 2.2 GWh of battery storage online within two months, aiming to reach 3 GWh of cumulative capacity by the end of 2026.
Under the RESTORE programme Bulgaria has allocated BGN1.15bn (EUR588m) and select 82 projects totalling 9.7 GWh in 2025 alongside a subsequent round targeting a further 1.9 GWh of storage (ESS News, 11/06/2026).
