Statoil buys stake in 2 two offshore wind projects (1.2 GW) in Poland

The Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil has signed an agreement with the Polish energy group Polenergia to acquire a 50% stake in two offshore wind development projects in Poland. Bałtyk Środkowy II (BSII) and Bałtyk Środkowy III (BSIII) are in an early phase development. The projects will be rated 600 MW each (total capacity of 1.2 GW) and will be located in the Baltic Sea, 40 km off Łeba. The closing of the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, including in particular the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.



Polenergia respectively obtained environmental decision for Bałtyk Środkowy III and Bałtyk Środkowy II in July 2016 and April 2017. Permits for the construction of artificial islands and connections to the national power grid have been obtained as well as the location for the entire submarine path of the connecting cable. The produced power will be secured for a period of 15 years through the obligation of purchasing and the difference mechanism contract under a bidding system.
