The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) released a yearly update of the state gasoline and diesel fuel taxes. The figures include all federal and state taxes across the US territory.
According to the data, the domestic average of taxes and fees on gasoline throughout the US territory has reached US$c27.9/gal (around US$c7.3/l) and increased by 4.5% in 2017. However, the taxes and fees range from a high of US$c59.3/gal (around US$c15.7/l) in Pennsylvania (US) down to a low of US$c8.95/gal (US$c2.3/l) in Alaska. The federal tax has remained unchanged since 1993, staying at US$c18.4/gal (US$c4.7/l).
State taxes on diesel are higher and stand at US$c28.6/gal (US$c7.6/l) in average, ranging from US$c8.95/gal (US$c2.4/l) in Alaska up to US$c75.8/gal (US$c20/l) in Pennsylvania. The diesel federal tax is higher than the gasoline federal tax and stands at US$c24.4/gal (US$c6.5/l).
