Spain’s Enagás will spend €4.8bn by 2030 in gas infrastructure and hydrogen

Spanish gas grid operator Enagás will invest a total of €4.8bn by 2030 on projects to ensure the security of energy supply and decarbonisation. With its strategic plan to 2030, Enagás aims to spend nearly €2.8bn on projects that include gas infrastructure (€850m), hydrogen infrastructure (€690m), as well as adjacent activities infrastructure including LNG (€240m).

Furthermore, the company will invest €205m in its renewable affiliate Enagás Renovables to develop 30 projects to produce renewable hydrogen and to advance decarbonisation of all sectors. Enagás will also invest €85m in 20 projects to produce biomethane, promote waste management and contribute to the development of a circular economy.

Enagás also plans to allocate €600m to projects within the Framework of the Mediterranean Corridor, such as the doubling of the capacity of Trans Adriatic Pipeline to 20 bcm, and the development of infrastructures in Greece and Albania. Moreover, €105m will be put in innovation, technology and digitalisation.

The addition of planned interconnector projects, such as the Spain-Italy projected gas pipeline or the projected Spain-Portugal links, will bring the total investment sum to around €4.8bn. These interconnector projects are part of a €210bn plan unveiled by the European Commission in May 2022 to reduce dependence on Russian fuels and accelerate the energy transition.
