Spain will launch a 3.3 GW renewable tender in November 2022

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge plans to launch a tender for 3.3 GW of renewable capacity on 22 November 2022. The auction, whose total investment is expected to reach €2.9bn, involves a 12-year subsidy scheme and will award 1.8 GW of solar capacity and 1.5 GW of onshore wind capacity to successful bidders. In addition, the country is also preparing a 520 MW renewable tender for October 2022.

In June 2022, Spain released a draft ministerial order to call an auction to award 5.8 GW of grid capacity to renewable and energy storage projects in 17 nodes of the electricity transmission network located across all regions of mainland Spain. In 2021, renewables accounted for 58% of Spain's installed capacity with 67 GW, including 28 GW of wind (24%), 20 GW of hydro (18%), 17 GW of solar (15%) and 1.4 GW of biomass (1%).
