Spain's Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE) has selected 133 storage projects with a combined capacity of nearly 2,400 MW and a cumulative energy capacity of approximately 10,000 MWh in its first tender for innovative energy storage projects (El periodico de la energia, 28/11/2025). The IDAE will allocate €827m in European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) co-financing for the selected projects, which should start operations by 30 September 2029.
The regions that will be benefited by the awards are Andalusia (32 projects, €351m), Galicia (12 projects, €107m), Castilla-La Mancha (11 projects, €96m), Castilla y Léon (10 projects, €56m), Balearic Islands (4 projects, €11m), among others. Awardees include Iberdrola (12 projects totalling 2.4 GWh), Atlantica (8 projects, 1.5 GWh), and Rolwind (2 projects, 1.2 GWh).
