SJVN invites bids for 2 GW pumped-storage hydropower projects across India

SJVN has invited bids to develop 2 GW of energy storage capacity through pumped-storage hydropower projects (PSPs) across the country. The capacity will be developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis and will provide eight hours of discharge, including up to five hours of continuous discharge.

The PSPs must have a minimum capacity of 50 MW, maintain a maximum conversion loss of 25%, ensure an annual availability of at least 95%, and achieve a minimum round-trip efficiency of 75% for each charging-discharging cycle. Selected bidders will be responsible for securing and acquiring land for the project and the central transmission utility (CTU) connection, obtaining all necessary statutory and non-statutory approvals, clearances, licenses, and no-objection certificates required for project development.

They must also sign a 40-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SJVN. The deadline for bid submission is 27 January 2026.
