Gás Natural Açu (GNA) has awarded Siemens a turnkey construction contract for the 1.3 GW LNG-to-Power project GNA 1 in the Port of Açu, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. Siemens will provide three units of its H-class gas turbines and will also be responsible for operating and maintaining the CCGT power plant, estimated at BRL4.5bn (U$1.1bn). Construction started in 2018 and commissioning is expected in 2021. The Açu Gas Hub will also house the 3 GW GNA-2 power project approved by the government in 2018, making it the largest thermal power complex in Latin America.
Siemens is providing an equity investment in the project and owns 1/3 of GNA, in partnership with Prumo Logística and BP. GNA secured US$458m in financing from the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and KfW IPEX-Bank in December 2018 and US$288m from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in March 2019.
