Shell divests a stake in the Borssele-3-4 wind projects (Netherlands)

Shell, Eneco and Mitsubishi have divested stakes in the Dutch Blauwwind II consortium, developing the Borssele-3 and Borssele-4 offshore wind projects in the Netherlands, to the private investment company Partners Group. The remaining interest is now spread among Shell (20%), Mitsubishi (15%), Eneco (10%) and Van Oord (10%). Prior to the transaction, Shell, Mitsubishi and Eneco held respectively 40%, 30% and 20% of the assets while Van Oord remains at its previous shareholding.

The consortium won the second Borssele tender with a bid of €54.50/MWh (excluding transmission costs) in December 2016. The maximum subsidy available for this tender was capped at €11.975c/kWh and the winning consortium bid €5.45c/kWh, the lowest ever strike price for offshore wind power.

The Borssele-3 and 4 parks are the second stage of the Borssele complex, consisting of two 350 MW offshore wind parks, Borssele-1 and 2, awarded to Danish energy group DONG Energy in July 2016. The capacity of the Borssele-3 wind park will range between 322 MW and 360 MW, while that of Borssele-4 will range between 342 MW and 380 MW. By 2021, about 1.4 GW of offshore wind capacity are expected to be operational off Borssele and the facility could generate about 3 TWh/year.
