The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has unveiled the winners of its tender to develop 1,500 MW of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar power projects across India under Tranche XIV. SAEL Industries, Avaada Energy, ReNew Solar Power, ENGIE quoted the lowest tariff of INR2.57/kWh (US$3.1c/kWh) and were awarded 600 MW, 300 MW, 300 MW, and 100 MW, respectively. NTPC Renewable Energy was awarded 200 MW out of the 500 MW quoted capacity at a tariff of INR2.58/kWh (US$3.11c/kWh). The tender was originally floated in January 2024.
In addition, SECI has launched a new tender for the development of 1,200 MW of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar power projects with 600 MW/1,200 MWh energy storage systems (ESS) across India, under Tranche XV. Bids can be submitted until 26 April 2024. SECI will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the successful bidders.
At the end of 2022, solar and wind accounted for 22% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 63 GW and 42 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW.
