The Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) has launched a tender to allocate 1 GW/8 GWh of pumped storage capacity in India (PV Magazine, 29/12/2025). Developers are invited to bid with projects that should be developed under a build-own-operate (BOO) model and connected to the inter-state transmission system (ISTS) to deliver two complete charge-discharge cycles per day. Projects must have a minimum cumulative capacity of 100 MW/800 MWh and a maximum of 1GW /8 GWh, with eight hours of storage.
Selected bidders will enter a long-term PPA with buyers identified by the SECI for the entire capacity of their projects, while the developers will be required to ensure to keep a minimum annual system availability of 90% of the project’s capacity.
