The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has invited bids to set up 2.5 GW of inter-state transmission system-connected wind power projects across India, under the country’s Tranche XV tenders. SECI will select project developers through a Request for Selection (RfS) document and the projects will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis. The company will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the successful bidders.
Of the total 2,500 MW, 1,200 MW will be connected in the Indian State of Karnataka, 400 MW will be connected in Telangana State, 300 MW Tamil Nadu, 300 MW in Andhra Pradesh and 300 MW in Maharashtra.
At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for over 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
