SECI invites bids for 1.2 GW of wind power projects across India

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has invited bids to develop 1.2 GW of interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind power projects across India. The minimum bid offering for this Tranche XIV wind auction was set at 50 MW and the maximum at 1.2 GW. Bidders must quote the capacity in multiples of 10 MW.

Bids can be submitted until 3 April 2023 and successful bidders will enter a 25-year power purchase agreement with SECI. The scope of work includes land identification, project installation, connectivity, access and interconnection with the ISTS network to supply electricity to SECI.

India’s SJVN, Scatec India and O2 Power were among the winners for SECI’s tranche XIII wind auction, which was also for 1.2 GW of projects and whose results were published in December 2022.

At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for over 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
