Saudi Arabia launches tender to procure 4.5 GW of wind and solar capacity

The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has launched a tender to procure 4.5 GW of solar and wind energy projects across Saudi Arabia. SPPC has issued a request for a qualification (RfQ) for the sixth round of the country’s National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP), which includes four solar and one wind energy projects.

The tendered projects include the 1.5 GW Dawadmi wind project, the 1.4 GW Najran solar PV project, the 600 MW Samtha solar project, the 600 MW Ad Darb solar project and the 400 MW As Sufun solar project.

Under the NREP, Saudi Arabia aims to boost the share of renewable energy in its power mix to 50% by the end of this decade. In June 2024, the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced the launch of annual tenders for new renewable energy projects with total capacity of 20 GW, to eventually reach between 100 and 130 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
