Rosatom assembles the Leningrad II-1 nuclear reactor (Russia)

The Russian state-held nuclear company Rosatom has assembled the Leningrad II-1 nuclear reactor, which is currently under construction in Sosnovy Bor, in the Leningrad Oblast (Russia). The testing phase of the Leningrad II-1 unit was completed in August 2017. Rosatom has started to load fuel in December 2017 and first criticality is expected to be reached at the end of January 2018, with the commissioning date set for 2018.

Rosatom is building two new AES-2006 reactors of 1,085 MW net each (VVER-1200), on the site of the existing Leningrad nuclear facility (four 925 MW RMBK-1000 units). The general designer of the construction project is Atomproekt while the general contractor is TITAN-2 JSC. The operating license for the first new unit was issued by Rostekhnadzor earlier in December 2017. Leningrad II-2 is expected to be connected to the grid in late 2019 and to be commissioned in 2020.
