Reactor pressure vessel installed at the Leningrad II-2 unit (Russia)

The Russian nuclear state corporation Rosatom has installed the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) at the Leningrad II-2 nuclear power plant, which is currently under construction in Sosnovy Bor, in the Leningrad Oblast (Russia). The operation was carried out using the open top technology, which enables to convey the reactor vessel directly behind the sealed area through the open top of the cylindrical part of the reactor building.

Rosatom is building two new AES-2006 reactors of 1,085 MW net each (VVER-1200), on the site of the existing Leningrad nuclear facility (four 925 MW RMBK-1000 units). The general designer of the construction project is Atomproekt while the general contractor is TITAN-2 JSC. The testing phase of the Leningrad II-1 unit was completed in August 2017 and the commissioning is planned for 2018. Leningrad II-2 is expected to be connected to the grid in late 2019 and to be commissioned in 2020.
