Poland will hold solar and wind auctions in December 2019

The government of Poland will organize solar PV and wind auctions in early December 2019. The fisrt auction to be held on 5 December will offer 2.5 GW for projects with a capacity of more than 1 MW, whereas the second of 10 December will offer 750 MW for smaller installations.

State support takes the form of contracts for difference (CfD), with payments equal to the gap between the auction price offered by the project and the market electricity price. The financial support is provided for the winners of auctions over 15 years from the date of the first sale of electricity, and not longer than until 31 December 2035. Only the projects which already obtained a construction permit and a connection to the grid can participate to the auction.

According to its revised Energy Policy to 2040, Poland ambitions to cut the share of coal in the power mix from 80% to 56-60% in 2030 and to increase the share of renewable to 21-23% (against 27% in the first draft).
