Poland unveils 3 location-based price caps for power from offshore wind

The Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment has unveiled a new regulation setting the maximum price indicated at auctions for energy from offshore wind parks fed into the grid, based on the location of the project. The regulation notably shows that a greater distance from the coastline entails higher operating costs.

The ministry’s new price caps are as follows : PLN485.71/MWh (around €114/MWh) for areas located on the closer Oder bank and on the eastern part of the Slupsk bank; PLN499.33/MWh (around €117/MWh) for areas located on the western part of the Slupsk bank ; and PLN512.32/MWh (around €120/MWh) for areas located on the further Central bank.

Poland aims to achieve 29.8% of renewables in final energy consumption in 2030, according to its updated NECP. The country targets up to 5.9 GW of offshore wind in 2030 and up to 18 GW of offshore wind in 2040.
