The Polish Energy Regulatory Office has announced the results of the eight renewable auctions held in May and June 2021, which failed to award the expected volume. Only three of the eight auctions were settled, with the sale of less than 37 TWh (compared to an expected 68 TWh), for a total value of PLN 8.5bn (€1.9bn), down from an expected total value of PLN 24bn, i.e. €5.3bn).
The auction for new, small (up to 1 MW) solar PV and onshore wind installations attracted the greatest interest, with 1,264 bids submitted and 1,016 bids selected, for a total volume of nearly 1 GW and 11.9 TWh. The minimum price offered (PLN207/MWh, €46/MWh) was close to 40% lower than the reference price for this tranche (PLN 340/MWh, €75/MWh).
A total of 111 bids were submitted for larger units (above 1 MW) corresponding to over 1.2 GW of solar PV projects and 0.3 GW of onshore wind projects, which should produce nearly 25 TWh of renewable power. The minimum prices of PLN 179/MWh (€40/MWh) for onshore wind and PLN 209/MWh (€46/MWh) for solar PV were respectively 28% and 35% lower than the reference prices (respectively, PLN 250/MWh (€55/MWh) and PLN 320/MWh (€71/MWh)).
