Poland awards support to three offshore wind projects (2.9 GW)

The Polish Energy Regulatory Office (URE) has awarded contract for difference to three offshore wind projects totalling 2,893 MW, namely the 1,498 MW Baltica-2 offshore wind project, the 1,045 MW Baltica-3 offshore wind project and the 350 MW FEW Baltic II offshore wind project located in the Baltic Sea. Baltica-2 and Baltica-3 are developed by Ørsted and PGE, while FEW Baltic II is proposed by RWE. Baltica-2 and Baltica-3 are expected to start generating power from 2026. FEW Baltic II should enter construction in 2024. The Baltica-2 and 3 wind projects should benefit from a price of up to PLN 319.6/MWh (€70.2/MWh). The Polish support scheme for offshore wind is yet to be approved by the European Commission under EU rules on state aid.

According to Poland's Energy Policy until 2040, 5.9 GW of new offshore wind capacity should be commissioned in the Baltic Sea by 2030 and 8 to 11 GW by 2040.
