Poland’s Energy Regulatory Authority (URE) has selected 486 MW of solar PV and 245 MW of wind capacity in its latest renewable energy auctions concluded in December 2022, with only 3 successful rounds out of 7 auctions held. The tenders contracted only 8.5 TWh of power out of a proposed 34.1 TWh, or just under 25%.
The tender for systems smaller than 1 MW attracted 197 proposals from 88 developers and 156 bids were selected with a total value of PLN434m (€92.9m), totalling 150 MW, all of which for solar PV. Only 400 GWh were awarded out of the 11.25 TWh offered, with bids ranging from PLN244.77/MWh to PLN327.73/MWh (€52.75/MWH to €70.6/MWh).
The tender for systems of over 1 MW in size awarded 582 MW of capacity, including 336 MW of solar and 245 MW of onshore wind. The auction was concluded with 46 successful proposals for 6.4 TWh of electricity (out of a proposed 11.25 TWh), for a total value of PLN1.7bn (€366m). The minimum price achieved in the large system auction was PLN150/MWh (€32.3/MWh) for onshore wind and PLN236.77/MWh (€51/MWh) for solar.
The third auction awarded 460 GWh of hydropower, with two contracts totalling a value of PLN2.5bn (€539m). The remaining 4 auctions are yet to be resolved due to the lack of required number of bids. Projects selected in the auctions will be eligible for financial support until 2027.
