Poland amends wind legislation and freezes energy prices until 2026

The Polish Parliament (Sejm) has passed an amendment to reform area laws regarding wind turbines installation and to freeze energy prices until de end of 2025. The reform aims to reduce the minimum distance between wind turbines and buildings to 500 m (currently set at 700 m), and allow the location of wind parks closer to extra-high voltage transmission lines and national roads. In addition, the parliament has approved the freezing of energy prices until the end of 2025 at PLN 500/MWh (€118/MWh).

The amendments also introduce a proposal to allow RES producers to include energy produced and sold at negative prices for the purposes of settling the obligation to sell under the auction system. They also have provisions to create auctions to promote biomethane installations with a capacity of more than 1 MW, and for biomethane installations of less than 2 MW and equal to or greater than 2 MW.

The reforms still have to be adopted by the Polish Senate.
