The China Oil & Gas Pipeline Network Corporation (PipeChina) has started building a gas pipeline that will connect gas fields in south-western China to the country’s east coast and be capable of carrying 20 bcm/year of natural gas. The pipeline will run for 4,269 km from the Sichuan province to connect to existing pipelines and eventually reach LNG regasification terminals in the Zhejiang and Fujian provinces.
The pipeline line will be built in phases. The first phase will see PipeChina build the 1,576 km western section of the project, which will include 12 branches and cross the provinces of Sichuan and Hubei, as well as the municipality of Chongqing.
This is the second pipeline to link the western province of Sichuan and China’s east coast. The first line, with a capacity of 15 bcm/year, links Dazhou (Sichuan) to Shanghai and has been operational since 2010.
