Poland’s Ministry of Infrastructure has awarded two additional offshore wind leases to the Polish utility Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) in the Baltic Sea, with a potential capacity of 1,530 MW. The company received lease sites 60.E.4 (555 MW) and 44.E.1 (975 MW) through its subsidiaries, Baltica 5 Wind Power Plant (66% PGE, 34% Enea) and Baltica 9 Wind Power Plant respectively.
In January 2023, PGE was also awarded lease sites 60.E.3 and 43.E.1 by the Ministry of Infrastructure. The two sites have a potential capacity of 1.2 GW and 990 MW respectively. PGE now has four decisions for the offshore wind development areas, totalling 3.7 GW of potential capacity. Six more decisions are expected to come in later in 2023.
PGE is bidding for 8 of the 11 concessions that Poland plans to award in the second round of proceedings for permits. PGE plans to build at least 6.5 GW of generation capacity in the Baltic Sea by 2040. 3.4 GW of projects are already under development.
