PGE plans to install 8 GW in Poland by 2020

PGE plans to add about 8 GW of installed capacity by 2020, of which 2 GW from renewables. About 2.3 GW of ageing capacity will be closed during the period.

A 858 MW block will be installed at the lignite-fired power plant Elektrownia Belchatow in central Poland by end-2011. A tender has been launched to develop two 900 MW units at the coal-fired Elektrownia Opole plant in southwest Poland by early 2016. PGE also plans to build a 460 MW unit at its lignite-fired Elektrownia Turow plant in southwest Poland near the Czech and German borders by 2016, while three 200 MW blocks will be decommissioned simultaneously. The Group intends to build up to 1.6 GW of new coal-fired capacity at a greenfield site near Lublin, in southeast Poland. New capacity should be added at its gas-fired power plant Dolna Odra, with two 432 MW blocks. The first block should be commissioned in 2015.

The Group is also in charge of developing 6 GW of nuclear capacity, with two reactors to be commissioned in 2020 and 2023.
