Petrobras, the Brazilian state-owned oil and gas company, has announced the arrival of its floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel to Brazilian shores to be installed in the Mero field, in the pre-salt Santos Basin. The FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias has the capacity to produce up to 180 kb/d of oil and compress up to 12 mcm/d of gas, and it is expected to increase the field’s installed production capacity to 590 kb/d of oil once it completes the legal procedures and final testing of the production equipment. The unit is scheduled to start operating in the second half of 2024. The FPSO is part of Mero's third definitive production system, in which Petrobras intends to implement, as of 2028, the HISEP technology, which will separate oil and gas at the bottom of the ocean, from where it will reinject the CO2-rich gas.
The Mero field, which already homes three FPSOs (Pioneiro de Libra, Guanabara, and Sepetiba), is operated by Petrobras (38.6%), in partnership with Shell Brasil (19.3%), TotalEnergies (19.3%), CNPC (9.65%), CNOOC (9.65%) and Pré-Sal Petróleo SA – PPSA (3.5%).
